1 – A shared project for our teams, focused on research and development
Derived from Latin, the term “apex” refers in geometry to the top or peak of a conical structure, distinct from the other parts.
APEX Lab at KHEOPS refers to our technological innovation lab, created for developers. The concept brings together various themes and challenges, which are organized into dedicated groups.
Our vision of the APEX Lab reflects the idea of building upon strong, existing technical knowledge, specific to each team member, in order to reach the peak of technological innovation.
The project aims to foster technological innovation within the team. Topic selection is open and driven by individual interests, based on team members’ proposals. These topics are then validated by our Tech Lead and CTO, as well as through an internal team voting process.
2 – Toward a culture of innovation and knowledge
It is also a way for team members to share their knowledge within the group. Twelve hours per month are dedicated to the project. The concept is primarily focused on collective work, enabling team members to benefit from internal training through knowledge sharing.
In practical terms, innovation involves identifying and applying new approaches to solve existing challenges or to address future client needs.
This culture of innovation is therefore centered on computer science research and collaborative learning. Teams work with full autonomy on a given topic, with no obligation to deliver results. This approach allows them to experiment and test new tools or technical methods.
The goal of this innovation process is to explore new approaches and experiment with new ways of working. If the development of a proof of concept (POC) proves successful, it may then be reintegrated into our standard development workflow.
The objective of this working method is to promote innovation and enhance the team’s technical skills, while reducing technical debt over the long term.
Beyond supporting the technical evolution of our products, this innovation-driven approach helps maintain a skilled, motivated team at the cutting edge of technology.
3 – What topics are addressed?
Inspired by a more modern way of working, the APEX Lab at KHEOPS aims to dedicate time for teams to identify solutions to known challenges, while also looking ahead to new methods and ways of working that can support our technological evolution and help us gain competitive advantages in the market.
Currently, we are working on framework-related challenges that enable the creation of new interfaces for ClevEHR, with solutions designed to facilitate smoother migrations to newer versions.
Authentication constraints are also being addressed, with the objective of simplifying authentication across internal services, external services, and between microservices.
The implementation of our Design System is also part of this initiative. It covers challenges such as improving the integration between the design library and UI components to streamline their use when developing new features. For example, one of the Design System topics focuses on integrating Storybook plugins to incorporate Figma designs.
Another topic involves the ability to extract CSS animations from the components within this library and assess whether they can be reused within UI components.
In summary, the APEX Lab aims to maintain a high level of technological modernity. It represents a new way of working that supports our long-term vision and contributes to our commitment to quality.
